2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Poor Reception
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct vision.
Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a sharper vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. After some time of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
David
Experience of the New Head
Brinkman presently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 together with a early access event. At the time, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary states. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
The game has not yet received an announced launch window or consoles, but players can expect more updates as production advances.
